Filter products by Metafield
You can add a filter option based on Product Metafields or Variant Metafields using the Smart Product Filter & Search app. This is useful for custom attributes like material, style, or any extra data that doesn’t come by default in Shopify.
✅ Before You Start
Make sure your metafields are already created and contain values in your Shopify admin, as well as being enabled in the app's metafield section (click here for step-by-step instructions).
Only Product and Variant metafields are supported.
You can’t use metafields from collections, orders, customers, etc.
🛠 How to Add a Metafield Filter
Open the app and go to Filter > Manage Filter.
Click the Edit icon on the filter group you want to change.
Scroll to Filter Options and click Add Option.
In the Label field, enter the name for your filter (e.g., “Material”).
Under Filter Type, choose either depending on your metafield data:
Product Metafield
Variant Metafield
Set your Display Style (e.g., List, Dropdown, Color Swatch).
Click Add to save the filter.
📝 Tips
Use Product Metafield for general product attributes.
Use Variant Metafield if the value changes by variant (e.g., different colors have different textures).
You can customize how the filter looks with display settings.
