# Configure filter sidebar

Create unlimited custom filters, each targeting specific collections, the search page, or your whole store — and exclude specific collections from a broad filter.

## What this does

A **filter** in the app is a named set of filter options (price, size, color, availability, tags, or any product attribute you choose). You can create as many filters as you need — there's no limit — and target each one independently:

* **Specific collections** — give a "Shoes" collection its own Size filter without adding it anywhere else, while your "Electronics" collection keeps a completely different set of options.
* **All Products** or **All Collections** — apply one filter store-wide instead of repeating the same setup everywhere.
* **The search page** — show a filter sidebar next to search results too, not just collection pages (see [Enable filter sidebar on search page](/filters/enable-filter-sidebar-on-search-page.md)).
* **The home page** or an **Automated (smart) collection** — target these specifically when your storefront needs them.

If you apply a filter broadly (for example, **All Collections**) but want it turned off on a handful of specific collections, use **Exclude collections** instead of building a second, narrower filter — pick the collections that should skip it, and everything else keeps the filter as normal.

## The Filters list

Go to the app's **Filters** page to see every filter you've created, with:

* **Name** — the filter's internal name (not shown to shoppers).
* **Applies to** — which collections it's active on (or **All Products** for a store-wide filter).
* **Status** — whether it's currently active.

A new store starts with one filter applying to **All Collections**, already pre-populated with common filter options (Collection, Category, Vendor, Product Type, Price, Availability, Tag, and any of your variant options like Color or Size). You can adjust or remove any of these — see [Configure filter options](/filters/filter-options/configure-filter-options.md).

## Create a filter for specific collections

Use this when one or more collections need different filters than the rest of your store (for example, a "Shoes" collection needing a Size filter that doesn't apply anywhere else).

1. On the **Filters** page, click **Add filter**.
2. Give it a **Name** (for your own reference).
3. Under **Applies to**, search for and select the collection(s) it should apply to.
4. In the **Filter options** table, remove any pre-filled options you don't want (click **Remove**), and reorder the rest by dragging.
5. Click **Save** in the bar at the top of the page.

If a collection is covered by more than one filter, contact us at <contact@globo.io> to confirm which one takes effect before relying on overlapping filters.

## Exclude specific collections from a broad filter

Use this when a filter should apply almost everywhere, except for a few collections that need it turned off.

1. On the **Filters** page, click **Add filter** (or open an existing filter).
2. Under **Applies to**, choose **All Collections**.
3. An **Exclude collections** field appears — click **Browse** and select the collection(s) that should skip this filter.
4. Click **Save** in the bar at the top of the page.

## Disable a filter

Tick the filter sidebar you want to disable

Click on the corresponding options to switch it between active and disabled. A disabled filter's options no longer appear on the collections it applies to.
