# Manage filter option values

Control which values show for a filter option and the order they appear in — by using all values, sorting, or a manual list.

Once you've added a filter option (see [Configure filter options](/filters/filter-options/configure-filter-options.md)), open its **Edit filter option** page to control which values it shows, in what order, and how it behaves.

## Choose which values appear

Under **Values > Type**, choose one:

* **Use all values** (default) — show every value found in your product data for this source.
* **By prefix** — only show values starting with a prefix you specify. Useful when a variant option mixes several groups of values (e.g. SKU-style values).
* **Manual selection** — pick exactly which values to show from a list, regardless of your product data.

## Sort order

Under **Values > Sort**, choose one:

* **A-Z** / **Z-A** — alphabetical.
* **Product count ascending** / **Product count descending** — order by how many matching products each value has.
* **Manually** — drag values into a custom order yourself.
* **Natural** — the order values appear in your underlying product data.

## Display options

* **Collapse filter by default** — when on, this option starts collapsed and shoppers click to expand it. Turn it off to have it expanded automatically. See also [Expand filter options by default](/filters/filter-options/expand-filter-options-by-default.md).
* **Enable search within values** — adds a small search box above the value list, useful for options with many values.
* **Show more options** — when a value list is long, choose how the rest are handled: **Scrollbar**, a **Show more button**, or **Show all values** at once.

## Advanced settings

* **Logic** — **OR condition** (match any selected value) or **AND condition** (match only products with all selected values). See [Use AND filtering condition in the same filter option](/filters/filter-options/use-and-filtering-condition-in-same-filter-option.md).
* **Option value text transform** — force value text to **None**, **Capitalize**, **Uppercase**, or **Lowercase**, or use the store-wide default (**Use global setting**, configured in [Change filter tree style](/filters/filter-sidebar-design/change-filter-tree-style.md)).
* **Automatically remove value prefixes** — strip a common prefix (e.g. `Color_`, `Material_`) from displayed value text without changing your underlying product data.
* **Tooltip content** — optional help text (under 150 words) shown next to the option to explain it to shoppers.

## Combine similar values

If your product data has near-duplicate values that should really be treated as one (e.g. "Red", "red", "RED"), don't delete the extras — merge them into a single group instead. See [Merge filter option values into a group](/filters/filter-options/merge-filter-option-values-into-group.md).
