Getting Started

Smart Product Filter & Search adds advanced product filtering, an instant search widget, and product recommendations to your Shopify store — without touching your theme's code.

With the app, shoppers can:

  • Narrow down collection and search results using filters such as price, size, color, availability, and any product attribute or metafield you choose.

  • Get instant search results and suggestions as you type, including typo-tolerant matching.

  • See related, trending, and best-selling product recommendations across your store.

All of it installs as a theme app extension, so none of it touches your theme's Liquid code, and it can be turned on or off from the Theme Editor at any time (see Integrate app to theme).

It works on any Shopify theme and is commonly used by stores with large or highly varied catalogs — fashion, electronics, auto parts, furniture, and multi-brand marketplaces — where customers need more than a plain collection page to find what they want.

What you'll set up

Getting the app fully running involves five steps, which you can complete in any order:

  1. Sync your product data — see Sync Product Data

  2. Set up your filters — choose which product attributes shoppers can filter by, see Configure filter sidebar

  3. Customize search — turn on the instant search widget and configure what it searches, see Enable instant search widget

  4. Enable the app on your theme — see Integrate app to theme

  5. (Optional) Set up Vehicle Finder — if you sell parts or products that fit specific vehicles, see Set up Vehicle Finder form

The app's Home dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of app embed status, sync status, and search/filter performance once you're up and running:

Before you begin

  • The app needs at least one full product sync to know what's in your catalog before filters or search will show any results.

Tips for a smooth setup

  • Start with a small number of filters (2–4) that matter most to your shoppers, then expand once you see how customers use them in Filter Analytics.

  • Re-sync your product data after large catalog changes (bulk edits, CSV imports, new metafields), so filters and search stay accurate.

  • Roll changes out on a duplicate/draft theme first if you want to preview the app before making it live to customers.
