# FAQ

Quick answers to the questions merchants ask most often.

<details>

<summary>Do I need to edit my theme's code?</summary>

No. Options are displayed through a Shopify theme app embed, which you turn on in the theme editor. There is no code to edit, and nothing is left in your theme if you uninstall the app. See [Enable the app embed](/options/getting-started/enable-the-app-embed.md).

The one exception is printing option details on a custom packing slip, which needs a small snippet in that template. See [Show options on orders](/options/storefront-display-and-design/show-options-on-orders.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will it work with my theme?</summary>

The app is built for Online Store 2.0 themes, which cover every theme in Shopify's current theme store and most themes sold elsewhere. **Match theme style** includes ready-made styling for a list of popular themes and uses your own color and font settings for the rest. See [Match your theme style](/options/storefront-display-and-design/match-your-theme-style.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can one option set apply to more than one product?</summary>

Yes. Use **Automatic Rules** to match products by tag, type, vendor, price, or collection, or **Apply to All Products** for your whole catalog. Several option sets can also apply to the same product, and all of them are displayed. See [Assign to products](/options/option-sets/assign-to-products.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does add-on pricing really change what the customer pays?</summary>

Yes. The product page displays a preview, and the actual amount is applied at checkout by Shopify, so it cannot be changed in the browser. See [How pricing is applied](/options/add-on-pricing/how-pricing-is-applied.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What is the difference between the three add-on modes?</summary>

**Add price** adds a charge with no product behind it. It is the simplest mode, but it has no inventory and is not supported in POS. **Use existing product** links to a product you already sell, so inventory and SKU are real. **Automatically generate a product** creates the product for you. Use the first mode for services, and one of the other two for anything physical. See [Add-on pricing](/options/add-on-pricing/add-on-pricing.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is gift wrap being charged five times?</summary>

The add-on is set to **Default** mode, which follows the product quantity. Use **One-time charge** for anything charged once per order. See [Advanced add-on modes](/options/add-on-pricing/advanced-add-on-modes.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can options react to the Shopify variant the customer picked?</summary>

Yes. As well as conditions on your own options, you can build conditions on the product's Shopify variants, so selecting `Large` in your theme's variant picker can display an option in the app's widget. See [Conditions on Shopify variants](/options/conditional-logic/conditions-on-shopify-variants.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is a hidden required option still enforced?</summary>

No, and it is not charged either. Hidden options are skipped intentionally because a hidden required field would make the product impossible to buy.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can customers see their personalization before they buy?</summary>

Yes. The Personalizer draws their text and images onto your product photo as they type, and the finished design is stored in the order so you can produce it. See [Product Personalizer](/options/product-personalizer/personalizer.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can customers fix a typo after adding to cart?</summary>

Yes, if you turn on **Show "Edit Options" button in cart**. See [Cart page](/options/storefront-display-and-design/cart-page.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I move option sets from another product options app?</summary>

Yes. The importer reads CSV files exported from several other option apps, as well as this app's own format. It is also how you copy option sets between your own stores. See [Import and export](/options/option-sets/import-and-export.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I translate my options?</summary>

Yes. You can translate labels, values, help text, placeholders, and the widget's own text for each storefront language, including right-to-left languages. See [Translations](/options/translations-and-languages/translations.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens to my work if I downgrade?</summary>

Nothing is deleted, but features the lower plan does not include stop working on your storefront immediately, including add-on charges. Read [Change your plan](/options/plans-and-billing/change-your-plan.md) before you downgrade.
