# Why doesn't Shopify's Buy X Get Y discount work with Pre-order products?

If you're using the **Shopify Model (Selling Plans)** for pre-orders, Shopify's automatic **Buy X Get Y (BOGO)** discounts are **not supported** for those pre-order items.

This is a limitation of Shopify's Selling Plans API and is not caused by the app.

### Why Does This Happen?

Products configured with the **Shopify Model (Selling Plans)** use Shopify's purchase options framework. Due to current platform limitations, Shopify does not support **Buy X Get Y** automatic discounts for products purchased with selling plans.

As a result, customers will not receive a Buy X Get Y discount when their cart contains eligible pre-order products using the Shopify Model.

### Is There a Workaround?

Currently, there is no workaround for this limitation when using the Shopify Model (Selling Plans).

If Buy X Get Y promotions are essential for your store, you may need to use a different promotion strategy or avoid using Selling Plans for those products.
