# Enable instant search widget

The instant search widget shows live product, collection, and query suggestions as a shopper types in your storefront's search box — no page reload needed.

## What this does

With the default theme search, a shopper has to type a full query and press Enter, then wait for a new results page to load before seeing any matches. With the instant search widget on, results start appearing directly under the search box as soon as the shopper starts typing — for example, typing "keds" surfaces matching products, collections, and suggested queries in a live dropdown/panel within the same page, with no reload and no need to press Enter.

Turning this on doesn't remove the regular search results page — shoppers can still press Enter to see the full results — it just adds the live, in-place suggestions on top of it.

## Turn it on

1. In the app, go to **Search**.
2. Turn on the **SEARCH WIDGET** switch at the top of the page.

The widget replaces your theme's default search box behavior wherever your theme renders search, without any code changes. From here, the **Before search**, **During search**, and **No results** pages each control what shows at a different stage of the search experience.

## Matching

Under **Search > Settings**, in the **Matching** section:

* **AI-powered search** — "Reads the meaning of a search, so a query like 'something warm for winter' finds coats." Matches shoppers' intent even when their exact words don't appear in your product data. Requires the **Professional** plan.
* **Typo tolerance** — "Still finds results when a shopper misspells a word, like 'snekaers'." On by default.

Turning Typo tolerance off makes search stricter (exact-text matching only).
