Set color and image swatches

Give every option value a colour, a two-colour swatch, or an image.

Styles like Color or custom image swatch need to know what each value looks like — that "Red" is #FF0000 and "Leopard" is a photo. That's what the value editor is for.

Open the value editor

On Options, click Set swatches on the option you want to fill in, or Complete setup in its missing-values banner.

The page has two parts:

  • Options with swatches on the left — every option that needs swatches, with how many values are missing and how many are Ready. Click one to switch to it.

  • The value list on the right, headed with the option name and Set a color or image swatch for each value.

Each row shows the value's preview, its name, Used by n products, a Status of Ready or Missing, and the swatch controls.

Set a value

Each row has a 1 color / 2 colors / Image switch under the column Swatch type and content. Pick one of the three, then fill in what it asks for.

For color-swatch: Click chip to select a color or enter the color hex to set up the color for swatch.

For two-color swatch: Click 2 colors. A second chip appears next to the first — set one colour in each, and the swatch is split between them. Two colours is the maximum; there is no third chip.

For image-swatch: Click Image tab, then select Upload image, or paste image URL in Image URL field

Click Save when you're done.

Setup tips, shown on the page: use colours for simple values like Red or Black, and images for patterns, textures, or special finishes.

Work through the missing ones

Turn on Show missing only to hide everything that's already set and work down the list. Use Search for item to jump to one value.

Keep your option values consistent

The app groups values by their exact text, across your whole catalog. "Navy" on one product and "navy" on another are treated as two different values, each needing its own swatch. Tidying up your product data in Shopify first means fewer swatches to set.

Good image swatches

  • Keep them small and square — they're rendered at swatch size, so a large file only slows the page down.

  • Crop to the material itself rather than a whole product photo.

  • Set the rendered size and whether the image fills or fits its chip under Image in Customize a swatch style.
