A multi-line field. It has the same settings as [Text](/options/option-types/input-types/text.md), with room for line breaks. ## Settings Textarea has exactly the same settings as [Text](/options/option-types/input-types/text.md), on both tabs:

## Personalizer Text and Textarea behave differently in the live preview, because Text is a single line and Textarea is a block.

A Textarea layer is a block that you size and align, and the customer's lines wrap inside it. A Text layer is a single line that you can bend along a curve. Customers usually enter more text in a Textarea, so a per-character charge can become large. Set a **Max character** value to limit it. For a gift message, use no charge or a single flat fee. **Brief for a custom commission** Min character `50`, max character `1000`, **Required field** on, help text `Tell us about the piece you have in mind. Two or three sentences is enough.` **Printed poem on a print** Max character `400`, **Personalizer** on, **Text alignment** set to center, and **Width** and **Height** matching the printable area. ## Notes * Available on all plans. * Works in Shopify POS. * Line breaks are preserved and travel through to the order. * A long entry is accepted on the order but may not fit your printing area. Set **Max character** to what you can produce. * **Allowed value** and **Text transform** apply to the whole entry, including across line breaks.
